Two people have lost their lives while an unspecified number of people were abducted by terrorists at Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident which occurred Sunday night at about 8:00 pm happened after the terrorists stormed the area on motorcycles, wielding automatic weapons.
Those killed included a man and a woman, while several persons were said to have sustained injuries while fleeing from the gunmen.
Those abducted were said to have included women and children and were later moved into the forest.
The council area is amongst about a dozen others in the state that is facing security challenges.
The reason for this is the expansive forest reserve located close to the council, which extends for many kilometers into neighbouring states.
Most times, terrorists use the forest reserve as their hideout, from where they plan their nefarious activities as well as holding unto their kidnapped victims.
A resident of the council who simply gave his name as Aminu, said many of the residents were living in fear following the incident.
Aminu said such attacks were common especially during the rainy season, even as he called on government and security operatives to come to their aide.
He said the deceased persons would be buried Monday morning, and that there was expectation the terrorists would call family members of those abducted demanding for ransom.
Spokesperson for the police command in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu said he would revert when details of the attack become available.
