The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Niger State Council, Comrade Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene has said that the union has communicated with the state government on the issue of the implementation of the ministry wage in the state without further delay.
He stated this in an interactive session with journalists over the weekend in Minna, adding that already a SEC meeting has been held, while a 12-man committee on the part of Labour has been formed, as well as reaching out to the government to inform the government that they were ready for the discussion.
Lafene stated further that on Thursday, 10th October 2024, the leadership of the NLC in Niger State went on a courtesy visit to the new Head of Service,Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Idris with the view to congratulate him on his appointment and his assumption of office as the new Head of Service, following which the discussion came up.
He stressed that hopefully within the week, that he, (Lafen) in conjunction with his executive council members shall have a formal negotiation or discussion with the state government,saying, “we are on course”.
When asked about the latest development with regards to the issue of allocation of some CNG buses to the state civil servants by the state government, he said, there is a slight change in the earlier arrangement that the state council of the Nigeria Labour Congress reached with the Niger State government, emphasising that apart from the issue of issuing receipts to the state civil servants, that government has also promised to issue Identification cards to all workers on its patrol in the state in addition with a controlled chip.
According to him, “the government is still working on the buses to install the machines that will recognise a worker with the ID card and immediately the ID card is installed in the machine, not will recognise it and give you your details automatically,it will be registered that you have used this one at this and this amount.”
He explained that even during the discussion with the new Head of Service of Niger State, that it was stated that as soon as the people working on the installation of the equipment on the buses that they will start with the ID cards and the State civil servants shall begin with the operation of the CNG buses to work and back to their houses on daily basis during the week.
