Governor Muhammed Bago of Niger State has faulted media reports insinuating that alcohol had been banned in Suleja and eight other local councils sharing boundaries with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement, he described the reportage as the handiwork of mischief makers.
Statements purportedly signed by one unknown secretary of the state’s Liquor and Licensing Board, Malam Ibrahim Mohammed, claimed that the ban on alcohol took immediate effect from Monday in Suleja and eight other councils sharing blurred boundaries with suburbs of the FCT.
But the governor clarified that the board was not in existence, as it had been dissolved a long time ago.
He labelled the so-called scribe an impostor.
Bago said there was no time he authorised such a directive.
“The board in question has not been constituted as we speak. It was dissolved a long time ago, and we are yet to constitute another board,” he explained.
