The Katsina State Government has exposed alleged irregularities in the recent recruitment of 7325 teachers for primary and secondary schools within the state.
Among the unsettling discoveries were 152 names of individuals who did not participate in the examination, along with 11 unqualified candidates illicitly added to the list.
Also, the names of 22 qualified candidates were allegedly unjustly removed.
Zainab Musawa, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, made this known during a press briefing following the state’s executive council meeting held on Wednesday.
“The recent teacher recruitment process has revealed unsettling practices. Qualified candidates were unfairly removed while unqualified individuals, who never took part in the examination, were included in the list for self-serving motives,” lamented Musawa during the briefing.
In response to these critical concerns, the executive council, spearheaded by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, unanimously agreed to take swift action.
“Any name on the list that didn’t participate in the examination will be removed and the qualified candidates unjustly removed will be reinstated immediately,” Musawa declared.
Meanwhile, Governor Radda has directed a comprehensive probe into the discrepancies in awarded marks during the assessment.
According to Musawa, this investigation aims to rectify potential typographical errors or unintended discrepancies in the marks allotted to candidates.
Musawa emphasised the current Katsina administration’s dedication to providing fair opportunities.
“This aligns with the agenda of the Radda-led government, ensuring equitable treatment for the less privileged,” she said.
As part of efforts in rectifying the disparities in the recruitment process, Governor Radda further issued a stern warning against such malpractices.
He ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. promising consequences for those found culpable.
“There will be zero tolerance for such misconduct in the future,” vowed Governor Radda.
