Following the Supreme Court judgement that affirmed Barrister Caleb Mutfwang as the duly elected Governor of Plateau State, the sixteen members of the State Assembly have vowed to resume sitting tomorrow.
At a Press Briefing addressed today 22nd January, 2024, by Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Ishaku Yobo, the members said with their initial recess coming to an end, they would resume the business of lawmaking on Tuesday 23rd January, 2024. According to him “Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in high spirit ahead of our resumption to duty tomorrow.
Therefore, we’re addressing you today to that effect as we are the duly elected lawmakers of Plateau State.” He therefore appealed to Governor Mutfwang not to accept the Lawmakers declared elected by the Appeal Court into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as according to him, there were rumours of some of the members contemplating defection. “We wish to call on our Governor who is a man of impeccable character not to accept the so-called members into our great party as they are not a product of democracy.
Our supporters are also going to be at the state assembly to show their solidarity in view of the pronouncements of the Supreme Court, and that is a welcome Development.” Hon. Yobo also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene swiftly in the matter for the benefit of Democracy, urging him to sanction the President of the Court of Appeal.
The majority leader maintained that “We were all witnesses to how the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State made boast before the Appeal Court judgements as to how they would emerge through the back door, and it exactly came to pass. We wish to draw the attention of Mr. President to this broad daylight malpractice wherein one panel was dedicated to election matters in Plateau State to serve the interest of some persons as that is not in line with the tenets of democracy.” He urged all Nigerians to prevail on the APC lawmakers to tow the line of dignity and allow the wishes of the people to take centre stage amidst the impasse.
