The immediate past Zamfara State deputy governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu has withdrawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship race.
Aliyu who was recently impeached by the state House of Assembly was the first person to purchase the nomination form under the platform of the PDP to contest for the governorship position in the state. Inside Arewa gathered that few hours to the PDP governorship primary election, the former deputy governor announced his withdrawal from the race.
In a statement issued by his principal private secretary, Umar Aminu, yesterday, did not give reasons for the decision to withdraw from the contest.
He however declared his support to one of the contestants, Dauda Lawal Dare and urged his supporters to vote for him.
According to the statement, Mahdi said, “I want to bring to the notice of my supporters that I have withdrawn from the PDP governorship primary election. “I am calling on all my supporters to vote for Dr Dauda Lawal Dare”. Mahdi Aliyu was impeached by the state House of Assembly, recently and is currently in court challenging the impeachment.
Meanwhile as at the time of filing this report, the PDP was yet to start the primary election.
