Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP, Ogundele Ayodeji has warned vigilante corps against establishment of detention centers and hand over suspects arrested to the police for diligent investigation and prosecution.

The CP gave this warning during an interactive session with officers and men of Kontagora Area Command, where he lectured them on discipline, commitment and dedication to duty, incivility, zero tolerance to corruption, operational tactics, raiding of criminal hideouts, among others.

He also admonished the local vigilante corps in the area to work with their various Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, and avail them of their activities for proper guidance.

Ayodeji, however, commended the vigilante corps for their efforts in assisting the police, and other security agencies for their synergy such as the PCRC, NURTW, Miyetti Allah, NARTO and trade unions among others.

Earlier, during a farmiliazation visit by the CP on the Emir of Kontagora, His Royal Highness Alh. Muhammadu Barau Muazu II, the 7th Sarkin Sudan Kontagora,
called on the State Police Command to deploy more special forces to the area for security.

He also appealed for more logistics support, operational vehicles, reactivation of active PCRC, efficient contact with the Community as well as constant community engagement through frequent meetings with stakeholders.

The Sarkin Sudan then described the visit of the CP as a homecoming, and a blessing to the Emirate which covers Wushishi, Kontagora, Mashegu, Mariga, Magama, and Rijau LGAs.

Also, Ayodeji in his remarks said he was in the palace to seek for royal blessings and cooperation of the council towards fighting crime and criminality in the state, adding, “I am familiar with the terrain as I was the Area Commander Kotangora in 2017. And, Kontagora is relatively peaceful and I will continue to do the needful to sustain the situation”.
