The newly elected 44 local government chairmen in Kano state on Friday took their oaths of office.

Addressing the newly sworn in local government chairmen at a colourful ceremony held at the Pillars Stadium in Kano Friday, Ganduje  said the issue of service delivery had been of a primary concern of his administration adding that it was a task that “lies at the onus of the newly elected chairman to live above board in line with his major cardinal thrust of accountability honesty and sincerity of purpose.”

He said local government as the third tier of governance entailed the commitment of a dogged and workaholic chairman at the helm of affairs, stressing that the “issue of service delivery and great sacrifice is what is needed in making the tier relevance and result-oriented in a democratic setting.”

He said, “I am appealing to you to also pay considerable attention to the execution of viable infrastructure that would have a direct bearing on the people. You are expected to pay good attention to healthcare, creation of jobs via empowerment and the construction of roads to ensure speedy movement of goods and services.

“And I also want to inform you that the federal government has done a lot in fast tracking the construction of various rail lines and the befitting road being constructed   from Kano-Abuja for easy and smooth transportation. The people of Kano have every reason to say thank you to the president for initiating this laudable effort aimed at uplifting the status of the state as a revered commercial nerve centre in West Africa.”
