The convoy of a former governor of Kano State and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has been attacked in in Kofa village in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.
It was reportedly said Party supporters from both ends died, while many sustained various life-threatening injuries.
Senator Kwankwaso had billed to conduct his final campaign alongside his governorship candidate, Abba Yusuf, slated to be held at Kiru and Bebeji on Thursday but the long motorcade belongs to the party leader was blocked and denied entry to Kofa village.
Sources said the bloody encounter occurred when bandits allegedly loyal to a member representing Kiru/Bebeji Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, blocked the passage which resulted in the bloody clash.
Reports indicate that at least more than 40 vehicles have been burnt at the spot.
Spokesman for Kano Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident, saying the police had promptly deployed its personnel to bring the situation under control.
He said police are yet to corroborates the exact figures in the deadly encounter.
