The 2019 elections are here and politicians have started warming up for campaigning into various special government offices.
Violence during polls in Nigeria is something that has become a tradition by the voters especially youth because their roles behind the success of most aspects in the society is immeasurable and the fact thus established is applicable in the political sphere.
Youth are very important crucial aspect in politics because most of the votes are from them. And they are the only ones who can endure all the processes in an election due to their youthfulness and exuberance. That is why youth are in the forefront in any political campaigning within or outside the country.
Politicians are gathered to sell themselves before polls, this leads them into making promises which in most cases are not achieved through a tenure and so many political propagandas. These are the first things that will create suspense in a ‘common sensible’ mind.
Consequently, people are left in doubt, leading to loyalists chanting fake slogans among themselves in the community and will even be divided them into opposite factions, One in Support to of party A, another in party B among others. Also the community is bedeviled with the hate speeches between one group and another.
The major motives behind political thuggery in this country include; Rigging of election,
sectionalism, religious issues and receiving money from politicians.
Let me beg to remind people that traditional stake holders, Government, as well as the parents should work hand in hand in orienting the public especially the youth from the grass root as the wise saying goes charity begins at home, in order to shun any sort of sectionalism, ethnicity, religious bias that will lead us into violence ahead of the 2019 election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should deploy more strategies to protect its system from any illegal act of known manipulation. And to set a rigorous investigating committee to ensure none of its members engaged in receiving kick back from the politicians or spreading false information among the public.
Security personnel should be strategic in handling cases more especially the ones related to today’s matter. And to ensure government authorities do not use their opportunity to embezzle the fund for election campaign. So that our future should be bright in terms of education, health, security as it remains a mandatory duty of any government.
I strongly believe the foregoing statements will give hints to the way out of such evil and exercise of violence during elections. I urge fellow youth and members of the public to shun thuggery for realisation of the required success of our election and its aftermath.
