The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman has attributed the spate of security challenges bedevilling the nation to the wilful activities of opponents of the present administration.
The Emir added that those who are uncomfortable with the single-minded efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to positively reposition the country are brains behind all the challenges in the country.
He asserted that “ninety nine per cent of the security challenges this country is facing are caused by the enemies of the administration who want to discredit and invite the people against it because of the good work it is doing.”
The Emir spoke when the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, accompanied by Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state, paid him condolence visit on Saturday over the death of the former Governor of Old Kaduna State, Alhaji Lawal Kaita.
The monarch urged the government “to show no mercy and decisively deal with anybody found complicit in all the criminal activities threatening the corporate existence of the country”.
The government, he said, must not hesitate to wield the big stick against anybody or group of people, no matter their social status, found to be behind the activities of insurgents, militants, farmers/herders and kidnappers in the country.
The Emir also expressed the belief that the security challenges would have been mitigated if traditional rulers had constitutional recognition to superintendent the affairs of their community as was previously the case.
The Senate President, who had spoken earlier, described the death of the former Governor of the Old Kaduna State as a great loss to the nation in view of his contribution to national development in various fields of endeavour.
He said Alhaji Lawal Kaita had lived a fulfilled life dedicated to the cause of a united Nigeria.
