Over 5000 people in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The defectors were members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and other opposition parties.
They were received by Governor Aminu Bello Masari at a rally held at the Government House in Katsina.
Speaking at the rally, the leader of the defectors, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Hamza Kankara, who was formerly a member of the PDP, said they left their various parties because they admired the leadership style of Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
Alhaji Hamza Kankara cited how the governor ended cattle rustling and armed banditry in Kankara and neighboring Local Government Areas which has restored confidence to farmers and pastoralists in the state.
He noted that farmers and cattle rearers in Kankara were now free to engage in agricultural activities without fear of attack by bandits.
He also cited the road from Wawar Kaza to Dayi which has been abandoned for 25 years until the coming of this administration.
He said when completed, the road will ease life, transportation and business for the people of the Local Government Area.
The defectors also called on Governor Aminu Bello Masari to recontest gubernatorial elections in 2019, in order to continue to deliver positive change in the state.
In his remarks, Governor Aminu Bello Masari said his administration decided to launch the amnesty program for cattle rustlers with the aim of restoring security in the LGAs affected by the menace of cattle rustling.
He expressed satisfaction that the policy has yielded positive result, as agriculture has been fully restored in the areas previously affected by the problem.
Governor Masari pledged to continue to deliver all his campaign promises for the number of years he will spend as governor.
